The Sun Still Shines
on New York
3-D serigraph on museum board,
10.25" x 6.5", limited edition of 350, 2006
The "Sun Still Shines on New York" is Charles Fazzino´s vision of the city
in the not-so-distant future, featuring the bold new Freedom Tower. The
Tower and the artwork celebrate the rebirth of New York after the horrors of
9/11. After meeting Fazzino at a gallery show in Germany and seeing this
piece, Dr. Ute von der Heyde, a collector, sent him the poem above that she
wrote as a personal reaction to the plans for the new Freedom Tower. She
thought the words accurately reflected the art, and kindly gave Fazzino
permission to reprint them here.

Freedom Tower
A new 541 meter high creation will open
its doors for us in 2012.
Its name sounds as if I could sense
the "Spirit of Freedom" through the air.
The slender and light tower
might touch the clouds
and its top could pitch them
for a clearer look into space.
Its skyline remember me on a slim pyramid
as a sign for our 21st century understanding.
The new "Prince of Towers"
will be a modest appearance
and it might bend with the wind of change
and not against it.
Sure, I´ll never forget my dinner
on the 107th floor of its ancestor
and my wish to dine there again
above all clouds of hate
only with you.
I´ll open my heart wide
to the newborn sign of freedom
and can imagine a sea of roses
around its ground.
Roses with the same name
"Spirit of Freedom."
